Popular Nigerian rapper CDQ has opened up about leaving his banking career to chase his real dream. In a recent chat, he shared how he once worked in a bank to please his late father, but deep down, he always wanted to make music.

CDQ said banking was never his passion, even though it made his family proud. While working there, he spent most of his time writing rap lyrics and thinking about beats instead of focusing on customers. It was only a matter of time before he made a bold move to leave.

Talking about how he finally took that step, CDQ revealed, “I quit my bank job. I couldn’t tell my mother or any family member then. I left the house and went to stay with Masterkraft in the studio.”

His close friend and producer, Masterkraft, was shocked when he found out CDQ had resigned without telling anyone. Interestingly, CDQ used to borrow suits from Masterkraft to look good at the bank. But even with the nice suits and job security, he knew his heart was elsewhere. As he said, “I told him banking isn’t my passion. I will probably just do it to make ends meet. But music is something that, whether it gives me a return or not, I’m still happy doing it.”

His decision paid off when he rose to fame with “Indomie” in 2016, featuring Olamide and Masterkraft. Today, CDQ is known as one of Nigeria’s top indigenous rappers. His story reminds us that true success often comes from following what makes us happy.
