Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has revealed that his chart-topping single “With You,” featuring Omah Lay, was almost left off his latest album, 5IVE.
Despite earning a nomination at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards, the singer said the song did not initially impress his team.
In an interview with OkayAfrica, shared on Monday via HYPETRIBE, Davido explained:
“Man, it’s so crazy because that song almost didn’t make the album. With You was not in anybody’s top five.”
He added that internal listening sessions did not flag the track as a standout hit.
The song has since surpassed 100 million streams on Spotify. Davido admitted the success now makes him reflect during performances.
“And now look at it go. Every time I was performing it, my heart would just start beating like, what if I didn’t put this song?”
Davido also shared how he learned about the Grammy nomination while traveling in the Middle East.
“They were like, ‘Oh yeah, another nomination.’ I was like, wow. Thank God,” he recalled.
He noted the news reached him in Dubai just days before his birthday.
Although “With You” lost the Best African Music Performance category to South Africa’s Tyla, Davido is now focused on global stages.
Confirming his role as the only Nigerian act at the 2026 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, he said:
“Going back on tour, definitely more music. I’m about to do Coachella. Big plans.”
Davido is scheduled to perform in Indio, California, on Saturday, April 11, and Saturday, April 18, 2026.
