Legendary actor Denzel Washington is officially joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The iconic star has been confirmed for a role in the upcoming Black Panther 3, directed by Ryan Coogler.
Coogler shared the exciting news on 7 p.m. in Brooklyn, the podcast hosted by Carmelo Anthony. While speaking about future projects, he let it slip that Denzel Washington would be joining the Black Panther franchise. “That’s a big f–k with it. You crazy?” Coogler said, confirming his enthusiasm.

Though specific details about Denzel’s character remain a mystery, Coogler made it clear that the role was created just for him. He said, “There’s no fiction out there about that.”
Fans can expect to see Denzel alongside returning cast members like Letitia Wright, Danai Gurira, Lupita Nyong’o, and Winston Duke. Since Chadwick Boseman’s passing in 2020, Marvel has chosen not to recast the role of T’Challa.
Coogler expressed deep admiration for Denzel, saying, “Denzel is family at this point. I think he’s the greatest living actor. In terms of what he means to our culture? Forget about it, man.”
Denzel also confirmed his decision was more about working with Coogler than joining Marvel. “It’s about the filmmaker, especially at this point in my career,” he said. “I’m only interested in working with the best.”
As excitement builds, fans will have to wait a bit longer to see this epic collaboration come to life in Black Panther 3.
