Hilda Baci Threatens Legal Action Against Seyi Vibez Over Defamation Claims

Celebrity chef and Guinness World Record holder Hilda Baci has threatened legal action against Afrobeats star Seyi Vibez, after the singer accused her of nearly poisoning him during an online dispute that had nothing to do with her in the first place.

The trouble started when Seyi Vibez, alongside labelmates Shallipopi and T.I Blaze, publicly called out their former record label boss, Dapper Music CEO Damilola Akinwunmi, over unpaid royalties and an alleged missing sum of about a billion naira. Akinwunmi is reportedly in a relationship with Hilda Baci, and in the heat of the exchange on X, Seyi Vibez took a swipe at the chef, claiming Akinwunmi had spent the artistes’ catalogue money on her Brazilian Butt Lift, and alleging that food she prepared once nearly killed him.

On August 15, Lagos law firm Olaniwun Ajayi LP sent a formal demand letter to Seyi Vibez on Hilda Baci’s behalf, accusing him of publishing defamatory and malicious statements and citing possible breaches of Nigeria’s Cybercrimes Act. According to the letter, the posts had racked up roughly 4.3 million views, about 7,100 reposts, close to 3,000 comments and around 45,000 likes before they were taken down.

Baci’s legal team gave the singer three days to permanently delete the posts, issue a public apology and retraction across his platforms, and call on his followers to stop harassing her, warning that failure to comply would lead to a lawsuit. Seyi Vibez has since deleted the posts in question, though he has not issued the public apology the letter demanded, and reacted to the legal threat on X in a manner many read as dismissive.

The episode has sparked a wider conversation among Nigerians online about how quickly celebrity feuds can spill over onto uninvolved public figures, and about the growing willingness of Nigerian celebrities to pursue formal legal channels over social media disputes. Whether the matter proceeds to court or is resolved privately remains to be seen.
