Nigerian singer Naira Marley has appeared before the Lagos Coroner’s Court to testify in the ongoing investigation into the death of his former signee, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad. The inquest is taking place at the Magistrate Court in Ikorodu, Lagos. Its goal is to uncover the real cause of the singer’s sudden death.
Naira Marley, whose real name is Azeez Fashola, gave his testimony on Friday, 2 years ago. During the hearing, he addressed the several allegations made against him since Mohbad’s death. According to him, the claims that he harassed or molested Mohbad only exist in people’s imaginations.
He also spoke about the viral video where Mohbad said Naira Marley and the Marlian crew should be held responsible if anything ever happened to him. Marley explained that Mohbad made that video while under the influence of drugs. He further claimed that Mohbad and his parents later apologized for the video.
Naira Marley maintained that there was no conflict between him and the late singer. He strongly denied having anything to do with Mohbad’s death. According to him, the last time he saw Mohbad was a year before his passing. He also stated that he was not even in Nigeria when the singer died.
However, the second witness, Oluwasanmi Falade, who is Mohbad’s lawyer, told the court otherwise. He confirmed there was a dispute between Mohbad and Marlian Records over unpaid royalties. On Mohbad’s instructions, he wrote several letters to the label, but they received no response. The lawyer added that the case is already before the Federal High Court.
Falade also revealed that Mohbad was attacked at Lekki Beach by music promoter Sam Larry. After the attack, Mohbad reported the matter to the Force Headquarters. Unfortunately, two attempts to arrest Sam Larry failed.
After listening to the testimonies, Magistrate Adedayo Shotobi ordered Sam Larry to appear before the court on the next hearing date. The case has been adjourned until April 11, 2025, for further proceedings.
This case continues to attract attention as fans, celebrities, and the public demand justice for Mohbad. Many Nigerians are hoping that the inquest will reveal the truth and finally bring closure to the tragic loss of the young singer.
