Nigeria and Brazil have taken a major step in building cultural and creative ties. From June 23 to 26, 2025, a Brazilian delegation visited Lagos for a special cultural exchange hosted at Filmhouse Cinemas – IMAX, Lekki. The event was organized by Nigeria’s Office of the Vice President and the Filmhouse Group.

The goal was simple but powerful: to celebrate a shared Yoruba heritage and explore partnerships in music, film, and the arts. The exchange is part of the Nigeria-Brazil Strategic Dialogue Mechanism. It reflects the strong cultural bond between the two nations, especially through Afro-Brazilian communities that trace their roots back to Nigeria.

During the visit, the Brazilian team explored cultural hotspots across Lagos. These included the Oba of Oniru’s Palace, Terra Kulture, the Lekki Arts and Crafts Market, and the John Randle Centre for Yoruba Culture and History. Filmhouse Group, West Africa’s largest cinema chain, served as a key host throughout the event.

Kene Okwuosa, CEO of Filmhouse Group, shared his excitement. He said, “Nigeria and Brazil share cultural roots and creative energy. Storytelling is our bridge to unite nations and drive economic growth.”

Representatives from Brazil echoed that excitement. George Maha of ApexBrasil, who was born in Lagos, said the connection feels personal. Rachel Maia, CEO of RM Cia 360, described the partnership as natural. She added that both countries are ready to build something lasting.

Brazilian officials praised Nigeria’s fast-growing entertainment industry. They also showed interest in more collaborations. The visit follows the recent Nigeria-Brazil Audiovisual Co-Production Agreement signed in Abuja.

This cultural exchange is a big win for Nigeria’s creative economy. With Filmhouse Group playing a leading role, the partnership promises more global projects, talent development, and investment. It’s also a chance to take African stories to the world stage in a big way.
