Early Life
Mofe Damijo was born in the Aladja community of Udu Kingdom in Delta State, Nigeria. He attended Midwest College in Warri and then Anglican Grammar School, where he joined the Drama Club. His passion for performance led him to study Theatre Arts at the University of Benin. Years later, in 1997, he returned to school to pursue a law degree at the University of Lagos, graduating in 2004.
Career
After earning his degree in Theatre Arts, Mofe Damijo began his acting career with a role in the TV soap opera Ripples, where he portrayed a police inspector. He became widely known for his role as the antagonist Segun Kadiri in the hit series Checkmate. Before entering the film industry full-time, he worked as a writer for The Concord newspaper and contributed to magazines like Metro and Quality.
His first major film project, Out of Bounds, marked his debut as both writer and producer. In 2005, he earned the Best Actor in a Leading Role award at the inaugural Africa Movie Academy Awards. He expanded his influence beyond film by co-hosting the 2016 GLO-CAF Awards and received the Black Star Honor in Ghana in 2021.
In addition to his achievements in entertainment, Mofe-Damijo served in political office. He became Special Adviser on Culture and Tourism in 2008 and was later appointed Commissioner for Culture and Tourism in Delta State, serving until 2015.
Mofe-Damijo was first married to journalist and talk show host May Ellen ‘MEE’ Ezekiel. After her passing in 1996, he married television personality Jumobi Adegbesan, who transitioned into the corporate sector. He is a father to five childrenโthree from his first marriage and two with his current wife.
