Early Life

She attended several schools during her early education, including Alama Private School in Jos, Tunwase Nursery and Primary School in Ikeja, and Molly International Nursery and Primary in Ajao Estate. She completed her secondary education at Federal Government College, Odogbolu in Ogun State.

Ufuoma earned a degree in French Language from the University of Lagos, where she also completed a master’s degree in public and international Affairs. She acquired additional certifications from Alliance Franรงaise and NIIT. In 2011, she studied acting at the New York Film Academy in Los Angeles and took a filmmaking course at the Hollywood Film Institute. She later earned a certificate in Human Resource Management from the London Business School. In 2015, she joined the Relativity Education program in partnership with Relativity Media in Beverly Hills.

Career

Ufuoma began her entertainment career in 2000 as a photographic model. She transitioned to runway modeling and entered several beauty pageants. In 2002, she won the Miss Ebony pageant and participated in Miss Commonwealth, where she received the Miss Congeniality award. That same year, she placed as first runner-up in the Queen Afrik beauty pageant.

In 2003, she competed in the Queen of All Nations pageant, again finishing as first runner-up. The following year, she entered the Miss Nigeria pageant and maintained her runner-up streak. Shortly after, she was crowned Miss Earth Nigeria and represented the country at Miss Earth 2004.

In February 2004, Ufuoma launched her acting career with The President Must Not Die, directed by Zeb Ejiro. She secured her first lead role in Life and Death in 2005, her third film. Later that year, she joined the cast of the TV series Edge of Paradise as Chibuzor.

In 2008, she played Lillian Wright in the TV series My Mum and I, a performance that earned her nominations at the 2010 Festival de Tรฉlรฉvision de Monte-Carlo and the Terracotta Nigerian TV and Film Awards. She also received a nomination for Actor of the Year at The Future Awards in 2011.

Ufuoma married Steven McDermott on April 23, 2010, and officially changed her name to Ufuoma McDermott on May 23, 2014.
