R.Kelly was freed from jail on Saturday, March 9, after posting a $161,663 bond after being arrested earlier in the day for failing to pay that sum in back child support to his ex-wife.
An anonymous donation has ensured freedom for a R&B singer, a spokeswoman for the Cook County Sheriff’s Department said the money was posted Saturday morning, but she did not know by whom, multiple reports said.
Both Kelly and his lawyer talked to reporters outside of the jail. The attorney said the singer is “innocent,” adding, “The presumption is that he’s innocent. As he stood here before you today. he’s an innocent man and people should just understand that.”
“I promise you, we’re going to straighten all this stuff out. That’s all I can say right now. I promise you,”
Being the subject of a boycott movement that has affected his income off music, finance has not been bright but a judge insisted three days before getting out of jail that he must pay all the monies owed to his ex and children, when he had offered to pay only $60,000.
According to Steve Greenberg who is R Kelly’s lawyer, his client is expected back in court on Wednesday, March 13, in respect in the child support case. After this there is another court date 9 days later for the allegation of sexual abuse against underage girls.
