TikTok has removed over 3.6 million videos in Nigeria between January and March 2025. This number shows a 50 percent increase compared to the last quarter. The platform shared this in its Q1 2025 Community Guidelines Enforcement Report. It says the goal is to keep the app safe and respectful for everyone.

According to the report, TikTok reached a proactive detection rate of 98.4 percent. This means most videos were taken down before users even reported them. Also, 92.1 percent of these videos were removed within 24 hours of being uploaded.

Even with the high number of removals, TikTok said these videos are only a small part of the total content from Nigerian creators. The platform stated that most content remains positive, educational, and entertaining.

TikTok also removed 129 accounts in West Africa in March 2025 for secret operations. The platform took strict actions against LIVE broadcasts in Nigeria too. During this period, 42,196 LIVE rooms were banned, while 48,156 live streams were interrupted for breaking rules. TikTok said, “LIVE content enforcement remains a priority as we continue to protect the integrity of real-time interactions on the platform.”

Globally, TikTok deleted over 211 million videos in the first quarter of 2025. This was more than the 153 million removed in the last quarter. Most were taken down by automated systems.

Despite these large removals, TikTok said harmful content was still less than one percent of total uploads. To improve user safety, it recently launched an in-app helpline in Nigeria and named Dr. Olawale Ogunlana as its Digital Well-being Ambassador. The platform continues to encourage its community to report harmful content to keep TikTok safe for all.
