Early Life
Monalisa Chinda was born on 13 September 1974 in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, into a family of Ikwerre descent. She is the first of six children, including two sons and four daughters. Monalisa attended Army Children’s School GRA for her primary education and Archdeacon Crowther Memorial Girls’ School in Elelenwo for her secondary education. She later earned a degree in Theatre Arts from the University of Port Harcourt.
Career
Monalisa Chinda began her acting career in 1996 with her debut in Pregnant Virgin. After graduating in 2000, she went on to appear in Above the Law and many other Nollywood productions. Her rise to stardom began in 2007 when she featured in the popular TV soap Heavenโs Gate.
In 2011, she took on the role of executive producer in Kiss & Tell, a Royal Arts Academy film co-produced with Emem Isong and directed by Desmond Elliot. By 2012, she had become one of the first Nollywood stars to appear on the cover of Hollywood Weekly Magazine.
In 2014, Monalisa expanded her career into broadcasting by launching her own talk show, You & I with Monalisa. She also writes a weekly column titled Monalisa Code in The Sun Newspapers, where she discusses social and relationship issues.
Beyond the screen, Monalisa contributes to the growth of Nollywood as a consultant with the Royal Arts Academy, mentoring new talent. She also supports local tourism through her partnership with Goge Africa. Her accolades include Best Actress at the 2009 Afro Hollywood Awards and Face of Port Harcourt – Carnival Queen in 2011.
