Kate Henshaw is opening up about her concerns surrounding surrogacy in Nigeria. The Nollywood actress shared her thoughts during a recent appearance on News Central, where she addressed the growing trend of surrogacy among women with no medical complications.
Her comments were sparked by a viral video from social media personality Ifeoluwa. Henshaw found it troubling. “I watched Ife’s video and I was wondering, why?” she said. “She’s healthy and has nothing wrong with her.”
She questioned why some women are choosing surrogacy for lifestyle reasons. In her view, this could lead to the exploitation of financially vulnerable women. “It is a means to exploit people who are not financially capable. You just pay them and tell them to have your child for you,” she said.
Kate Henshaw also raised legal and ethical concerns. “Are you bound under any laws or legal framework to ensure that they are taken care of before and after they deliver the baby for you?” she asked. She wondered what kind of documents are signed and what protection is in place for the women involved.

For Henshaw, surrogacy should be about offering hope to those who face real medical challenges. “Surrogacy is a thing of giving hope to those who cannot have their kids or have medical complications,” she explained. “It shouldn’t be something that should be done lightly like you’re going to buy a bag.”
She emphasized that pregnancy is both a physical and emotional journey. “There are lots of emotions attached to carrying a child… it’s mental. There’s a lot going on and they can die,” she warned.
Her hope is that Nigeria implements stronger laws to regulate surrogacy and protect all involved.
