Nigerian Afrobeats icon David Adeleke, widely known as Davido, has officially become a voting member of the Recording Academy, the organization responsible for the prestigious GRAMMY Awards. This milestone allows him to participate directly in selecting nominees and winners for the upcoming 2026 GRAMMYs.
The Recording Academy welcomed Davido and other global music professionals as part of its commitment to greater international representation. Voting members will begin the selection process from October 3, reviewing the ballot and casting votes across major categories.
Davido expressed gratitude for the opportunity and called the appointment a “game-changer” in his career.
“Understanding the importance of how our voices are heard, I am participating in the GRAMMY Award process. I have learned that voting empowers you to have a say in what is considered and voted on in each season,” he said. “I am honoured to be part of the Recording Academy community.”
Davido, who earned three GRAMMY nominations in 2024, views his membership as more than a personal win it marks a major step forward in global recognition for African music. His involvement reinforces the influence of Afrobeats and celebrates Nigeria’s growing role on the world music stage.
