The singer explained that his father’s reservations were rooted in concerns over the stability of the entertainment industry.
“My father didn’t support my music career at the beginning. He is a businessman and he wanted me to study and get a proper job. He didn’t see music as a serious profession.”
The singer recalled the pressure he faced at home, which made him feel compelled to prove himself daily.
“There was a lot of pressure to do something else. He didn’t believe in the lifestyle and he was worried about the future. It wasn’t easy because I had to prove myself every day.”
The dynamic shifted after Asake achieved commercial success under YBNL Nation and collaborations with Olamide. His father gradually became supportive and proud of his accomplishments.
“Everything changed when he started seeing the results. When I signed to YBNL and the songs started blowing up, he saw the dedication. Now, he is my biggest fan and he’s very proud of what I’ve achieved.”
Asake concluded with advice for emerging artists navigating family resistance.
“You have to stay true to your vision even when your parents don’t see it. Sometimes they are just scared for you. You just have to work hard and show them that it is possible.”
