Early Life
Muyiwa Ademola was born on 26 January 1973 in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria, to Isiah and Rebecca Ademola. He attended St David’s High School in Molete, Ibadan, Oyo State, before proceeding to the University of Ibadan.
Career
Muyiwa Ademola, popularly known as “Muyiwa Authentic” or simply “Authentic,” began acting in 1991. In 1995, he produced his first written script into a film titled ‘Asise’ (Blunder), marking the start of a career that would combine acting with writing, producing and directing. His 2005 film ‘Ori’ (Fate) won Best Indigenous Film at the 1st Africa Movie Academy Awards, and he was later nominated for Most Outstanding Indigenous Actor at the 4th AMAA in 2008.
His filmography includes ‘Ogo Osupa,’ ‘Ile,’ ‘J.J,’ ‘Alapadupe,’ ‘Owo Okuta’ and ‘Gbarada,’ among many others, cementing his position as one of Yoruba Nollywood’s most dominant and respected figures. In 2004, he founded the Authentic School of Drama, dedicated to developing exceptional new performing talent, and in 2015 he launched the MUY Authentic TV YouTube channel. He also serves as a brand ambassador for a real estate company.
Personal Life
Muyiwa Ademola is married to Omolara Ademola, and the couple have five children. In January 2017, he shared how a fan from Houston, Texas, sent him a car and an undisclosed sum of money in appreciation of his role in the 2004 film ‘Ori,’ more than a decade after its release, illustrating the lasting impact of his work.
With decades spent acting, producing and mentoring the next generation through his drama school, Muyiwa Ademola remains one of the most authentic and dominant voices in Yoruba-themed Nollywood cinema.
