Rema’s “TEA” is holding firm inside the top ten of the Official Nigeria Top 100, ranking at No. 6 in its third week on the chart and standing as the singer’s first solo single of 2026.
Released on Friday, August 7 through Mavin Records and Jonzing World with distribution by Interscope Records, the track arrived alongside an official music video and kicked off the rollout for Rema’s third studio album. He has confirmed the project is finished and expected later in the year.
Production came from American record producer Mustard, with additional production from London, Rema’s longtime collaborator. It is a notable pairing: Mustard built his name on West Coast hip-hop, and the record leans into that partnership rather than hiding it.
Sonically, “TEA” runs on heavy log drums, booming percussion and a hypnotic high-pitched chorus that refuses to let go. It is a rhythm-first record built for repeat play, and the production is doing considerably more work than Rema’s relaxed delivery lets on.
Lyrically, Rema takes the playful phrase “body like tea” and turns it into a full celebration of feminine beauty and curves, flipping a line that reads as nothing much on paper into the hook the whole song hangs on.
Born Divine Ikubor in Benin City, Rema signed to D’Prince’s Jonzing World in 2019 and has since become one of Afrobeats’ biggest global exports. His debut Rave & Roses became the first album by an African artist to pass two billion Spotify streams, and 2024’s HEIS set the record for the biggest first-week streams on Spotify Nigeria while earning him a Grammy nomination.
The single caps a heavy year of collaborations. He appeared on Don Toliver’s “Secondhand,” which reached No. 29 on the Billboard Hot 100, and joined LISA and Anitta on “Goals,” the official FIFA World Cup 2026 song performed at the tournament’s opening ceremony.
“TEA” also charted on the UK Official Afrobeats Chart, where it peaked at No. 5. It marks the start of a new era for an artist who has spent the past four years steadily widening what an Afrobeats record is allowed to sound like.
