Abdul Hassan’s “Abadan,” a duet with Jamila Sadi, has proved one of the more durable Arewa records of the year, still holding a place on Spotify’s Top Hausa 100 playlist months after its April 13 release.
The pairing of a male and female lead is a long-running convention in Hausa popular music, carried over from Kannywood soundtracks where duets were built to score romantic scenes.
That lineage runs directly into the present, with records like Naziru Sarkin Waka and Fati Niger’s “Kina Burgeni Balaraba” and Nazifi Asnanic’s “Nana” with Shamsiyya Sadi following the same template.
Hassan has stayed active since, appearing on Usman Bee’s “KAUNA” remix in August alongside Erm Boii.
The Arewa music scene has spent 2026 pushing further onto streaming platforms, with a new generation of Hausa-language acts building audiences alongside established names like Hamisu Breaker and Umar M Shareef.
