Early Life
Born on May 30, 1971, Sammie Okposo began his journey in Delta State, Nigeria. He grew into one of Nigeria’s most celebrated gospel artists. As the founder and CEO of Zamar Entertainment, Okposo made his mark as a singer, music producer, and psalmist. He released his debut album Unconditional Love in 2000, featuring the hit track “Welu-Welu,” followed by Addicted in 2004.
Career
His talent attracted collaborations with both Nigerian and international artists, including Marvellous Odiete and American gospel singer Jonathan Nelson on the track Oghene Doh. Okposo also launched SOPP (Sammie Okposo Praise Party), a gospel concert series that toured Africa, Europe, and North America. In 2018, he released The Statement, produced by Grammy-winner Kevin Bond.
Okposo began his entertainment career in 1992 as a soundtrack producer in Nollywood. He transitioned into gospel music, where he gained recognition for his vibrant sound, high-energy performances, and impactful lyrics. His music consistently topped charts, earned him multiple awards, and inspired audiences worldwide.
Though his career faced personal challenges in 2022, including public controversies surrounding his marriage, Okposo took responsibility, apologized, and stepped back to seek healing and restoration.
Sammie Okposo passed away on November 25, 2022, at the age of 51. His music continues to echo in churches and homes across the globe, preserving his legacy of worship, resilience, and grace.
