International Afrobeat star Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has donated ₦150 million to the Martins Vincent Otse Initiative. The donation was confirmed on January 31, 2026, making him the highest individual donor to the organization. He surpassed the ₦100 million previously donated by music executive Don Jazzy.
The announcement was made by the NGO’s founder, social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan (VDM). In a video, VDM showed bank receipts confirming the transfer from Spaceship Collective, Burna Boy’s parent brand, to the initiative’s Zenith Bank account. This donation follows an earlier contribution of $100,000 made by the singer in December 2025.
VeryDarkMan explained the purpose of the funds, saying, “The money is strictly earmarked for a specific project: paying off the fines of inmates languishing in prison.” He added, “I will use the money to give a new life to some people, talking about some people that have been in prison for years because they are unable to pay their fines. A lot of people are in prison because they can’t pay 300k, 50k, 30k etc. Well, a lot of them will be out.”
He also stated that the donation would support healthcare needs. “This money will also clear the medical bills of impoverished Nigerians who are stuck in hospitals,” he said.
The donation by Burna Boy further strengthens his role as a major supporter of the Martins Vincent Otse Initiative. Although the singer has not issued a personal statement, transaction records confirm that the funds have been received and are now under the NGO’s management for correctional and medical assistance programs.
