Nigerian skit maker and Nollywood actor Adebowale Adedayo, popularly known as Mr Macaroni, has publicly condemned the Nigerian Police after a tragic shooting claimed the life of a secondary school student heading to sit for the WAEC examination.

According to reports, police officers chased a vehicle suspected to belong to internet fraudsters, commonly referred to as ‘Yahoo boys’, on Gbagi Market Road in Oyo State. During the high-speed pursuit, an officer fired a shot intended for the suspect’s vehicle. Instead, the bullet struck the student, who was riding with his twin brother.

Bystanders rushed the victim to Welfare Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. The killing sparked immediate outrage. Protesters, including market traders and residents, carried the student’s body to the Oyo State Secretariat, demanding justice from the authorities.

Mr Macaroni, reacting strongly on social media, blasted the Nigerian Police, calling them “wicked, evil, callous, irresponsible, and shamelessly corrupt.” He further accused them of murdering an innocent child in broad daylight.

In response to the incident, the Oyo State Government issued a statement explaining that the student’s father had driven against traffic, prompting police to attempt an arrest. During that attempt, an officer allegedly aimed at the vehicle’s tyre but missed and hit the student instead.

Sulaimon Olanrewaju, Special Adviser on Media to Governor Seyi Makinde, described the incident as tragic, shocking, and completely avoidable. He promised that the government would ensure justice is served and would take action to prevent similar incidents in the future.
