Amal Umar grew up in Katsina State, Nigeria, where she completed both her primary and secondary education. She later moved to Kano to attend Yusuf Maitama Sule University, earning a diploma.
From an early age, she demonstrated a passion for performing and storytelling, laying the foundation for her acting career.
Career
Amal Umar launched her acting journey in 2015, when she entered the Kannywood industry. Before she starred in films, she appeared in Hausa music videos alongside artists like Umar MโฏSharif, Garzali Miko, and others. Her first film role came in the movie Itikam, which brought her early recognition.
Amal expanded her reach beyond Hausa cinema by acting in the MTV youth TV series Shuga Naija, where she played Hadiza. She also starred in popular films such as Hafeez, Kawayen Amarya, and Sarki Goma Zamani Goma. Over time, she built a strong online presence as a socialโmedia personality and content creator, further increasing her influence.
Her performance earned her industry recognition: she won the City People Movie Award for Kannywoodโs Most Promising Actress, and she also received nominations for Best Supporting Actress.
However, her career has not been without controversy. In 2024, she faced legal trouble in Kano State over allegations of attempting to bribe a police officer amid a broader investigation involving her boyfriend. She denied the accusations, and her lawyer claimed she had acted wrongly pressured.
Amal Umar remains a rising force in the Nigerian entertainment scene, blending her Kannywood roots with cross-industry appeal.
