Early Life

Faithia Balogun hails from the Urhobo ethnic group in Delta State, Nigeria. She was born in Ikeja, Lagos State, and grew up in a polygamous family of nine. Faithia attended Maryland Primary School and Maryland Comprehensive Secondary School in Lagos, where she completed her West African School Certificate. She later pursued a diploma at Kwara State Polytechnic. In 2016, she enrolled at Olabisi Onabanjo University to study filmmaking.

Career

Faithia’s acting career began unexpectedly when her uncle, Alhaji Fatai Teniola, asked her to stand in for an actress who failed to show up on set for a film production. Her first role was in the movie Ta Lo Pa Chief. Since then, Faithia has starred in, produced, and directed several Nigerian films, becoming a household name in Nollywood.

In 2008, Faithia won the Africa Movie Academy Award for Most Outstanding Indigenous Actress. Her movie Iranse Aje also won the Best Indigenous Film of the Year. She continued to receive accolades, winning the Africa Movie Academy Award in 2014 as Best Actress of the Year alongside Odunlade Adekola. Additionally, Faithia won the Best Indigenous Language award at the 2015 Africa Magic Viewersโ€™ Choice Awards for her work in Iya Alalake.

Faithia was previously married to veteran Nollywood actor Saheed Balogun, with whom she has two children. She also has a son from a previous relationship. During her marriage, she changed her name to Faithia Balogun and converted to her husband’s religious beliefs.

Faithia Williams remains one of Nollywood’s most respected and influential figures, known for her captivating performances and dedication to the film industry.
