Early Life

Nengi Adoki was raised in Toronto, Canada, Nengi earned a B.A. in Performing Arts and Information Technology from the University of Toronto in 2013. While in school, she directed and performed in several theatre productions, including the annual Afrocentric show Sync Afrique. She later obtained a certificate in performing arts from Sheridan College in 2014. Her passion for cultural storytelling earned her the African Scholars’ Global Impact Award in 2019.

Career

After her studies,Nengi Adoki returned to Nigeria to pursue her acting career. Her early television appearance included a minor role in the final season of Lost Girl. She then performed in Wakaa! The Musical, the first Nigerian stage musical showcased at London’s West End. Nengi starred in several TV and stage productions, including Forbidden, Heartbeat the Musical, and No More Lies.

In 2021, she made her Nollywood film debut as Joy in Juju Stories and later won a Future Awards Africa prize for her performance. She also developed and starred in her own comedy web series The Most Toasted Girl, inspired by real-life dating experiences in Lagos. In 2022, she played the lead in Chatroom, a film focused on gender-based violence, and continued to expand her filmography with roles in Little Black Book and The Trade.

Alongside her artistic career, Nengi is an outspoken advocate for women’s rights and has actively supported the movement against police brutality in Nigeria.
