Early Life
Ngozi Ezeonu pursued education at the Nigerian Institute of Journalism, where she earned a diploma in journalism. Before venturing into acting, she worked for Radio Lagos and Eko FM. She completed her primary and secondary education in Owerri.
Career
Ngozi Ezeonu initially gained recognition in Nollywood for her portrayal of matriarchal roles. However, she started her acting career with younger characters before making her breakthrough in 1993. Director Zeb Ejiro cast her in a supporting role as Nkechi, the antagonist’s best friend, in the 1994 blockbuster Nneka the Pretty Serpent. Later in the same year, she starred in Glamour Girls as Thelma, a high-society mistress, showcasing her versatility as an actress. Since then, she has featured in over 200 Nollywood films, building a stellar reputation in the industry.
Her role in Adesuwa earned her a nomination for Best Supporting Actress at the 8th Africa Movie Academy Awards in 2012. In 2023, Ezeonu was honored with the Sun Nollywood Icon of the Year award for her immense contributions to Nollywood.
Ngozi Ezeonu was previously married to Edwin Ezeonu, with whom she has four children. In 2012, she was bestowed with a Chieftaincy Title, “Ada Ife,” meaning โdaughter of light,โ by His Royal Highness, C.F.N. Ezerioha III, in her hometown of Ihiteoweri, Imo State.
