Early Life
Osita Iheme was born in Abia State in southeastern Nigeria on February 20, 1982, though he hails from Mbaitolu Local Government Area of Imo State.
He grew up in a family of five, with parents Herbert and Augustina Iheme. He earned an MBA from the Institute of Management Technology (IMT), Ghaziabad. After completing his education, he began his acting career in 1998, initially taking on featured roles.
Career
In his early years in Nollywood, Osita Iheme frequently portrayed child characters. His breakthrough came in 2002 when he played Pawpaw in Aki na Ukwa, a performance that cemented his place in the industry and sparked a lasting partnership with Chinedu Ikedieze. Over the years, he appeared in a wide range of films that showcased his comedic talent and versatility.
In 2007, he received the Africa Movie Academy Award for Lifetime Achievement. In 2011, President Goodluck Jonathan honored him with the Nigerian national award of Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR).
In 2023, TAJBank appointed him as a brand ambassador, reflecting his broad influence beyond film. He has also expressed intentions to enter political office in the future.
Ihemeโs contributions to comedy in Nollywood earned him national and international recognition. His iconic role in Aki na Ukwa, especially his portrayal of Pawpaw, sparked a meme trend on Twitter and other platforms starting in 2019, drawing global attention and expanding his fanbase worldwide.
