Nigerian singer, songwriter, and producer Young Jonn has surpassed one billion streams across all credits on Spotify, becoming the 20th Nigerian act to reach the milestone on the platform.
The 31-year-old’s achievement rests on a rare dual career. Long before he stepped in front of the microphone, Young Jonn, real name John Saviours Udomboso, built his name behind the boards as ‘The Wicked Producer,’ shaping some of the biggest street-pop records of the 2010s, including Olamide’s ‘Story for the Gods,’ Lil Kesh’s ‘Gbese,’ and Davido’s ‘Biggest Backside.’ That production catalogue played a significant role in pushing him past the billion mark, alongside the streaming numbers from his own solo records.
As a performer, Young Jonn has racked up hits including ‘Dada,’ ‘Xtra Cool’ (82 million streams), and ‘Aquafina’ (78 million streams), before releasing his long-awaited debut album ‘Jiggy Forever’ in 2024. Signed to Chocolate City Music, he has steadily built a public identity distinct from his producer tag, blending soft melodic vocals with the technical beat-making instincts that first made his name.
With this milestone, Young Jonn joins a growing list of Nigerian acts who have recently crossed the one-billion mark on Spotify, including Odumodublvck, Ruger, and Oxlade. He still trails the platform’s biggest Nigerian streamers by a wide margin, with Wizkid leading at 10.77 billion streams, followed by Burna Boy, Rema, Tems, and Davido.
