Early Life

Bien-Aimé Baraza, widely known as Bien, is a celebrated Kenyan musician and the lead member of the famous Afropop band Sauti Sol. His musical journey began at Upper Hill School, Nairobi, and he later became an instrumental figure in shaping the Kenyan music scene.

Career And Achievements

Bien’s solo career soared with the release of his 2021 EP Bald Men Love Better, which featured hit tracks like “Stamina” and “Mbwe Mbwe.” In 2023, he garnered further recognition with his solo album Alusa Why Are You Topless?, which showcased collaborations with artists such as Ayra Starr and Ms. Banks.

Beyond music, Bien actively advocates for political and social issues. His song “Maandamano” addresses the socio-political challenges faced by Kenyans, while he has publicly supported the LGBTQ+ community. He also uses his platform to highlight the struggles of Kenyan artists, notably criticizing the Music Copyright Society of Kenya for its handling of royalties.

Bien also pursues various entrepreneurial ventures. He co-founded Hustle Sasa, a platform that enables artists to sell their products directly, and Sol Kids, an initiative dedicated to creating children’s content. Additionally, he opened the nightclub Manhattan Ke Bar and Grill in Nairobi and serves on the board of the Recording Industry of Kenya (RIKE).

Bien reached a major milestone in his career when he won a Grammy Award for his songwriting on Burna Boy’s Twice As Tall, which took home the Best Global Music Album honor. His continued contributions to music and business affirm his position as one of East Africa’s most influential artists.

Bien is married to Chiki Kuruka, who also manages his career. Together, they share a deep passion for music and entrepreneurship.
