Early Life and Background

Olamide grew up in Bariga, Lagos, Nigeria, immersed in a neighborhood rich in hip-hop and street music. From a young age, he developed a deep passion for music. As a teenager, he began his journey, using Yoruba to connect with local listeners. Influenced by the vibrant street culture, he quickly learned to blend traditional Nigerian sounds with hip-hop elements.

Olamide attended Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, where he studied Mass Communication. During his university years, he started recording music and performing at local shows, which eventually led him to pursue music full-time.

Rise to Fame

Olamide’s breakthrough came in 2010 with his debut album Rapsodi, released under the Coded Tunes label. The album’s hit single, “Eni Duro,” received massive radio play and established him as a rising star. His unique style, which combined Afrobeat with rap and Yoruba lyrics, helped him carve out a distinctive place in the Nigerian music scene.

In 2011, Olamide transitioned into a household name with the release of his second album, YBNL. This marked the beginning of his independent career. Tracks like “First of All,” “Voice of the Street,” and “Omo To Shan” became instant hits. YBNL also saw the launch of his own record label, YBNL Nation, a platform to mentor and nurture emerging talent.
