Early Life
Diamond Platnumz, born Naseeb Abdul Juma Issack on 1 October 1989, is a Tanzanian singer, dancer, philanthropist, and businessman. He is the founder and CEO of Wasafi Classic Baby (WCB) Wasafi Record Label, Wasafi Bet, and Wasafi Media. Diamond has become a leading figure in East and Central Africa’s music scene, and in 2017, he made history as the first Africa-based artist to reach 900 million views on YouTube.
Career And Achievements
Platnumz embarked on his music career at the age of 18, initially working in the clothing business while recording music. His first single, “Toka Mwanzo,” was a Bongo flava song fused with R&B, though it didn’t initially achieve commercial success. In 2010, his breakthrough single, “Kamwambie,” earned him three Tanzania Music Awards and marked the start of his rise to fame. Later that year, he released his debut studio album, Kamwambie.
Platnumz’s international reach expanded in 2014 when he received a nomination for Best International Act: Africa at the BET Awards. In 2017, he signed with Universal Music, and in 2021, his record label entered into a partnership with Warner Music Group. He later released A Boy from Tandale (2018), his third studio album, which further solidified his success.
Known for his collaborations, Diamond has worked with top African artists such as Zuchu, Adekunle Gold, Focalistic, and Koffi Olomide. His 2022 extended playlist First of All (FOA) blended R&B, Bongo Flava, and Afrobeats, featuring big names across the continent. In 2023, his song “Enjoy,” a collaboration with Diamond Platnumz, blended Bongo Flava with Amapiano, continuing his streak of innovative releases.
Platnumz is also a successful businessman with several brand endorsements. He became a Pepsi Brand Ambassador in East Africa in 2019 and has since endorsed brands like Parimatch Africa, Airtel Tanzania, and Coral Paints. In 2021, he launched Wasafibet, a partnership with Odibets, a Kenyan sports betting company.
While Diamond’s personal life has often been in the spotlight, he has been open about his relationships. He has children with his former partners, including South African businesswoman Zari Hassan and Tanzanian model Hamisa Mobetto. He also shares a son with Kenyan model and musician Tanasha Donna, though they have since separated.
In politics, Diamond endorsed the Chama Cha Mapinduzi party in 2010 and supported Raila Odinga in Kenya’s 2022 elections. Additionally, Platnumz has confirmed his relationship with fellow WCB Wasafi label mate Zuchu, sparking further media attention.
