Ngohide Ruby Ann GyangGyang, known professionally as Ruby Gyang, was born and spent her early years in Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria.
Career
Ruby Gyang’s journey to stardom began when she co-founded Loopy Music alongside fellow Jos musicians M.I Abaga, Ice Prince and Jesse Jagz, a collective that became one of the defining forces in Nigerian hip-hop’s rise in the late 2000s. When Chocolate City absorbed Loopy Music and its roster, Ruby Gyang became one of the label’s stars, working and collaborating with M.I, Jesse Jagz, Show Dem Camp and other prominent Nigerian artists across the years.
As a soul and R&B singer-songwriter, Ruby Gyang has stood out within a roster that leaned heavily toward hip-hop, bringing a distinct vocal and songwriting sensibility to Chocolate City’s catalogue. She was among the artists featured on the label’s 2015 collaborative album “The Indestructible Choc Boi Nation,” a project that showcased the full breadth of the label’s talent.
