Early Life
Jide Kosoko was born and raised in Lagos State. He spent his early years in the Ebute Metta area, where his interest in the performing arts began. His inspiration to pursue acting came from the legendary Hubert Ogunde, and a chance encounter with a friend led him to an audition for a television production, Makanjuola, in 1964. He was cast in the role of Alabi, marking the beginning of a long and successful career.
Career
Kosoko studied Business Administration at Yaba College of Technology, but his passion for acting remained strong. He gained popularity by performing with the Awada Kerikeri theatre group alongside notable names such as Sunday Omobolanle, Lanre Hassan, and Oga Bello. He also made guest appearances on the iconic television series New Masquerade. In 1972, he established his own theatre troupe.
He has written, produced, and acted in numerous films and stage plays, including Ogun Ahoyaya, Asiri n la, Asewo to re Mecca, and Ti Oluwa NiโLe Part 2. Kosoko is respected for his performances in both English and Yoruba-language films.
Jide Kosoko has represented several brands, including Chivita, MeritAbode Limited, and Western Lotto, as a brand ambassador
In 2021, he received a nomination for Outstanding Male Actor at the Abuja International Film Festival for his role in Love Castle. Kosoko was married to Karimat and Henrietta and is a proud father and grandfather. His children include Bidemi, Sola, Temilade, Tunji, Muyiwa, and Tunde Kosoko, some of whom are also actors.
