Early Life

Cynthia Ikponmwenosa Morgan, born on 23 September 1991 in Benin City, Edo State, began her journey into music as early as age 3, performing as a backup singer in her mother’s gospel band.

She completed her basic education in Benin City and showed early promise by composing her own songs at just 7 years old. Her upbringing, under a single mother after her father abandoned the family, shaped her love for music. By secondary school, she led her school choir, laying a foundation for what would become a dynamic music career.

Career

At 17, Cynthia Morgan recorded her debut single “Dutty Stepping” featuring General Pype. She relocated to Lagos in 2008 to pursue music professionally and eventually signed with Northside Entertainment Inc. under Jude ‘Engees’ Okoye in 2013. This move also launched her into mainstream success with hit singles like Don’t Break My Heart and Lead Me On. The latter earned her a nomination for Best Reggae-Dancehall Single at The Headies in 2014.

Cynthia Morgan created a unique sound by fusing Afro-pop, reggae, dancehall, and hip hop, often performing under her alter ego “Killa Marshal.” Her use of patois and her energetic delivery set her apart in the Nigerian music industry.

Also, In May 2020, Cynthia also revealed she lost access to her stage name, royalties, VEVO account, and social media handles due to her contract with Northside Entertainment. The fallout also led to a period of depression and silence from the public eye. When she broke the news in an Instagram Live session, fans rallied around her, creating a GoFundMe campaign to support her comeback. Even Afrobeats superstar Davido offered her a collaboration opportunity.

In Conclusion, Cynthia Morgan’s journey is one of resilience, talent, and transformation. Now known as Madrina, she continues to inspire many with her story a reminder that setbacks can lead to reinvention, and that true talent never fades.
