Ali Isah Jita, known simply as Ali Jita, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter and film director who has become one of the most respected voices in Kannywood and Hausa music, celebrated for a career built on romantic, melodic storytelling.

Ali Jita was born on 15 July 1983 in the Gyadi Gyadi area of Kumbotso Local Government in Kano State, into the family of Alhaji Sallau Jibrin Kibiya, a butcher, and his mother Hajiya Ummul-Khairi. He was raised in the Shagari quarters of Gyadi Gyadi before his family later relocated from Kano to Lagos and eventually Abuja for business reasons. He studied Public Administration and Computer Science before turning his full attention to music.

He gets his stage name from his early love of the guitar, and has since become known for pioneering “Ingausa,” a distinctive musical style that blends Hausa and English lyrics within the same song, written and performed by Jita himself. His music has featured extensively in Kannywood films, and his albums have also found audiences across other Hausa-language film industries.

Ali Jita’s 2018 single “Love” was named runner-up for Hausa Music of the Year by BBC Hausa, one of several recognitions that have cemented his standing in the industry. That same year, he co-produced the official video for “Arewa Angel” alongside Kannywood actress Rahama Sadau, and a separate video for “Love” with actress Hadiza Gabon. He has also collaborated with fellow Hausa music stars including Nazifi Asnanic, Fati Niger and Naziru M Ahmad, and produced the track “Mama” together with Umar M Shareef.

Ali Jita continues to release new music, most recently the single “Uwar Gida Mai Amarya,” which has already begun trending across Arewa TikTok. Nearly two decades into his career, he remains one of the defining voices of the Ingausa sound and a consistent presence across Hausa music and Kannywood film.
