Aminu Ala, also known by his pen name Alan Waka, born Aminu Ladan Abubakar, is a Nigerian Hausa-language musician and writer from Kano State whose work bridges Northern Nigeria’s literary and musical traditions.

Born on 11 February 1973 in Kano State, Northern Nigeria, Aminu Ala completed his primary education at Tudun Murtala Primary School between 1980 and 1986, before proceeding to GSS Kawaji Secondary School in Dakata, Kano, from 1987 to 1992. He later continued his studies at the School of Technology in Kano, where he received his diploma in 2007.

Before establishing himself as a musician, Aminu Ala was first known within the field of Hausa-language writing, building a reputation as an author before transitioning more fully into music. That literary background continues to inform his songwriting, giving his work a distinct narrative and poetic quality that sets him apart within the Hausa music scene.

As Alan Waka, Aminu Ala has built a career grounded in storytelling that draws on Hausa oral traditions and cultural themes, contributing to a body of work that reflects both his musical and literary sensibilities. His dual identity as writer and musician has made him a respected figure within Northern Nigeria’s cultural and creative circles.

With roots firmly planted in both Hausa literature and music, Aminu Ala remains a distinctive voice within Kano’s cultural landscape, representing a tradition of Northern Nigerian artistry that spans the written word as much as it does the recorded song.
