Early Life
2baba was born in Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria, hails from the Idoma ethnic group in Benue State.
He attended Mount Saint Gabriel Secondary School in Makurdi before studying Business Administration at the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu.
His passion for music led him to abandon formal education and focus on his career. In 1996, 2Baba began composing music and recording jingles at the GB Fan Club in Enugu. Originally performing as “2Face,” he changed his stage name to “2Baba” in 2016.
Personal Life
2Baba’s career has been marked by controversies, including a dispute with Blackface over songwriting credits for African Queen.
He was also involved in a 2017 protest against government policies, which was later canceled due to security concerns. 2Baba married actress Annie Macaulay-Idibia in 2012, but announced their separation in January 2025.
Career and Achievements
While at IMT, 2Baba began performing with Blackface Naija and Faze, forming the group Plantashun Boiz. The group released Body and Soul (2000) and Sold Out (2003) before disbanding in 2004.
2Baba’s debut solo album Face 2 Face (2004) was a major success, followed by Grass 2 Grace (2006).
He founded Hypertek Digital and released The Unstoppable (2009), which garnered international acclaim. Over the years, 2Baba has won numerous awards, including the MTV Europe Music Award, BET Award, and Headies Awards.
He received an honorary Master of Arts from Igbinedion University in 2016.
His contributions to the Nigerian music scene, both as part of Plantashun Boiz and as a solo artist, have cemented his place as one of Africa’s most influential musicians.
Despite facing controversies, including public feuds and political activism, he has remained a respected figure in the industry.
