Mr 2Kay, born Abinye David Jumbo on February 11, 1988, in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, grew up on Bonny Island, Rivers State. From a young age, he showed a deep interest in art, particularly in drawing portraits.

His creative talents expanded into music as he later pursued a career as a singer and songwriter, quickly rising to prominence in Nigeria’s music scene.

Mr 2Kay began his musical journey in Port Harcourt, where he recorded and released his first breakout single, “Waterside Boy,” under Grafton Entertainment on August 21, 2011.

Career

While this song earned him recognition within the local music scene, it was his follow-up single, “Bubugaga,” released on October 8, 2012, that truly catapulted him to international fame.

The release of “Bubugaga” marked his global breakthrough, with its captivating rhythm and memorable lyrics resonating with audiences far beyond Nigeria.

The music video for “Bubugaga” was shot in London, UK, and directed by Nosa Igbinedion, further expanding Mr 2Kay’s international appeal.

In 2018, Mr 2Kay took a significant step in his career by hosting the Elevated album concert on June 17, 2018, at Aztech Arcum Stadium in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The concert featured an impressive lineup of guest artists and entertainers, including Timaya, Duncan Mighty, Harrysong, DJ Jimmy Jatt, DJ Neptune, and many others.

With over two thousand seats filled, the concert was a massive success, and the tickets were sold at prices ranging from two hundred to five hundred thousand Nigerian Naira, making it a significant event in the Nigerian music scene.

Alongside his musical achievements, Mr 2Kay has also shown a deep commitment to giving back to his community.

On April 2, 2018, he announced a singing and dancing competition in Port Harcourt, offering a $2,000 prize to two talented individuals.

Mr 2Kay explained that this competition was his way of giving back to the city where his music career began, supporting aspiring artists and celebrating his roots.
