Early Life
Bovi Ugboma was born in Benin City, the capital of Edo State. He attended UNIBEN Staff School for his primary education. In 1991, he enrolled at Government College, Ughelli in Delta State but transferred to Edokpolor Grammar School in Benin City due to disciplinary concerns.
Afterward, he completed his secondary education at Boys Model Secondary School, Onicha Olona. Bovi then gained admission to Delta State University in 1998, where he studied Theatre Arts.
Career
Bovi began his career in April 2007 by starring in the sitcom Extended Family, which he also wrote and produced. The show gained popularity and earned a loyal fan base. Between 2008 and 2011, Bovi emerged as a force in Nigeria’s comedy scene, debuting his stand-up at the renowned Night of a Thousand Laughs.
In 2013, Bovi held his first stand-up special at the Eko Convention Center, followed by Bovi: Man on Fire in 2014, featuring international stars Ja Rule and Ashanti.
He took the show worldwide, performing in cities including London, Melbourne, Moscow, and Toronto. After a brief hiatus, he returned with another successful Man on Fire show in 2019, declaring it the final installment of the franchise. He then launched the Back To School series on YouTube in 2018.
In 2022, Bovi hosted a sold-out comedy special titled Naughty By Nature in Lagos. He has collaborated with top Nigerian comedians like Basketmouth and Julius Agwu throughout his career.
Bovi premiered his first movie, It’s Her Day, in 2016, grossing 55 million naira at the box office. In 2020, he starred in the remake of Nneka the Pretty Serpent. In 2021, he wrote, co-produced, and starred in My Village People, which became one of the top Nigerian films to gross over 100 million naira locally.
Bovi is married to Kris Asimonye Ugboma, and they have three children.
