Early Life

Daniel Etim Effiong is a Nigerian actor, filmmaker, and director whose dynamic career spans engineering, television, and film. Born in Jaji, Kaduna State, he lived in multiple Nigerian cities including Benin City, Lagos, and Abuja due to his fatherโ€™s military background. His father, former Lieutenant Colonel Moses Effiong, faced a life sentence following the alleged 1986 Vatsa Coup but received a presidential pardon decades later.

Daniel began his academic journey at St. Maryโ€™s Private School in Lagos Island, completed secondary school at Government College Ikorodu, and later earned a degree in Chemical Engineering from the Federal University of Technology, Minna. After working briefly in the oil and gas sector, he shifted careers to pursue his passion for film and storytelling. He studied filmmaking, writing, and directing at AFDA Film School in South Africa and took additional film courses at the University of Johannesburg.

Career

After transitioning from engineering, Daniel Etim Effiong started working as a content producer for NdaniTV, where he gained experience behind the camera. In 2017, he directed his first short film Prey, which starred Tope Tedela and Odenike Odetola, and was produced by his wife, Toyosi.

In 2019, he gained wider recognition after starring in the romantic comedy Plan B alongside Kenyan actresses Sarah Hassan and Catherine Kamau Karanja. He portrayed Dele Coker, a Nigerian CEO based in Nairobiโ€”a role that earned him a nomination for Best Actor in a Comedy (Movie/TV Series) at the 2020 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA).

However, Throughout 2020, Daniel played major roles in several productions. He also led the cast in Fish Bone, a drama featuring Shaffy Bello and Moshood Fattah, and starred in Storm, a short film directed by Michael Akinrogunde and produced by Diane Russet. That same year, he directed the critically acclaimed documentary Skin, produced by Beverly Naya, which explored the issue of colorism and was slated for release on Netflix.
