Afrobeats star Rema has revealed that online trolls played a key role in his rise to global fame. In a recent interview shared on social media, the Nigerian singer shared how constant criticism actually helped him grow.

According to Rema, he enjoyed being trolled because of the benefits that came with it. Rather than let the negativity stop him, he used it as fuel to keep pushing forward. “It is beautiful to see something that people troll and criticise me for. And, you know what? I’m benefiting from that,” he said.

He explained that if he had paid attention to negative comments early in his career, he might have quit music. But instead, he stayed true to his sound, even when people didn’t understand it. “Imagine if I had stopped or listened to trolls… four years later, it paid and it paid,” he added.

Rema also highlighted a major milestone: becoming the first Afrobeat artist to tour India. “It is a huge territory, right? And I was actually the first Afrobeat to tour India. And I even came from Africa if I’m not mistaken. But it is a huge deal,” he said proudly.

His story proves that success often comes from staying focused, even when the world doubts you. Rema’s bold approach to music and refusal to conform have made him one of the leading voices in Afrobeats today.
