South African pop star Tyla has shared the story behind her new song with Wizkid, titled Dynamite. The Grammy-winning singer revealed that the song was actually recorded three years ago, long before she became a global name.
Speaking in an interview with Capital Xtra in London, Tyla said she was still an unknown artist at the time. She didn’t think Wizkid would agree to a studio session with her, but to her surprise, he did.
Tyla explained that she played a few songs for him and he liked one of them, which led to them creating Dynamite. Since then, she has been keeping the track to herself, playing the demo in her room and dancing to it. She said she always hoped it would be released one day.

Calling Wizkid one of the greats, Tyla praised his contribution to African music. She said he has done a lot for the culture by putting African sounds on the global map. According to her, “He is just the best. I don’t think he has one bad song.”
Tyla first rose to fame in 2023 when her breakout single Water took the world by storm. The hit track topped charts and gained over a billion streams online. In 2024, she made history by becoming the first artist to win a Grammy in the Best African Music Performance category.
Now with Dynamite finally out, fans are excited to hear the long-awaited collaboration between two of Africa’s biggest stars.
