Davido on Afrobeats: “It’s way bigger than us now”
In a recent MixMag interview, Davido reflected on Afrobeats’ rise to global prominence. He urged artists to stay mindful, saying, “We have to be very cautious and understand that it’s way bigger than us now.”
He emphasized that today’s artists represent “a whole demographic of people.” According to him, Afrobeats has changed how Africa is viewed and celebrated worldwide.
He recalled warning Sony during his early deal: “I told them Afrobeats is coming o. We’ll be the biggest.” They doubted him back then—but now, major labels are flocking to Nigeria to sign talent.

On 5ive: Davido’s Journey of Change and Growth
Speaking on his new album 5ive, Davido described it as “another one of those classic Davido albums.”
He chose the name because it’s his fifth studio album. But the number five also mirrors his personal journey. “What makes the number five great ended up being exactly what is happening in my life—change, growth, and hope.”

Why He Said He’d “Buy Belgium” in “Funds”
Davido also broke down the viral lyric from “Funds”: “I suppose relocate, but I go buy Belgium.”
He explained it’s about overcoming hardship. “You’re supposed to relocate because you can’t afford the place. But then God blesses you.”So why Belgium? “I don’t know!” he laughed. Sometimes, lyrics just hit.
