Early Life

Giveon Dezmann Evans was born on February 21, 1995, in Long Beach, California. Raised by a single mother alongside his two brothers, Giveon discovered his passion for music at a young age, often singing at birthday parties. His mother played a pivotal role in nurturing his musical talents and shielding him from the challenges of gang culture and poverty.

He attended Long Beach Polytechnic High School and later participated in a music education program at the Grammy Museum at age 18. It was during this time that he developed an appreciation for artists like Frank Sinatra and Barry White, whose influences are evident in his soulful sound.

Career

Giveon launched his music career independently by releasing his debut single, “Garden Kisses,” in August 2018. Canadian producer Sevn Thomas discovered him on SoundCloud and quickly signed him to Not So Fast and Epic Records.

In February 2020, Giveon teamed up with Drake on the track “Chicago Freestyle,” which first appeared on SoundCloud and YouTube. The song climbed to number 14 on the Billboard Hot 100, giving Giveon his first major chart success.

Later that year, he dropped his debut EP, Take Time, which drew widespread acclaim and earned a Grammy nomination for Best R&B Album. The project’s standout single, “Heartbreak Anniversary,” reached number 16 on the Billboard Hot 100 and earned quintuple platinum certification from the RIAA.

In 2021, Giveon joined Daniel Caesar as a featured vocalist on Justin Bieber’s global hit “Peaches,” which debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and received multiple Grammy nominations.

He followed up with a second EP, When It’s All Said and Done, and later merged both of his EPs into the compilation album When It’s All Said and Done… Take Time.

Giveon released his debut studio album, Give or Take, in 2022. The album peaked at number 11 on the Billboard 200, solidifying his place in the mainstream R&B scene.

In November 2023, he also showcased his holiday spirit with two Christmas covers—O Christmas Tree” and “The First Noel.” He kept his momentum going by collaborating with Arya Starr on “Last Heartbreak Song” in May 2024 and featuring on Teddy Swims’s track “Are You Even Real” in January 2025.

However, Giveon continues to expand his sound and evolve as an artist. On February 7, 2025, he launched a new phase of his career with the release of “Twenties,” a reflective and mature single that hints at his artistic growth and signals what’s next in his journey.
