Back in 2020, Simi released the hit song Duduke while expecting her first child. The song became a huge success and touched the hearts of many fans. Not long after, she and her husband, singer Adekunle Gold, welcomed their daughter. They named her Adejare.
Since then, many people started calling the child “Duduke,” linking her to the emotional song. But Simi has now said she is not comfortable with that nickname.
She explained that Duduke was never meant to be a name. It was just a sound used in the song to describe how her heart beat for her unborn baby. In her words: “People call my daughter Duduke, which I don’t like. That’s not her name. It doesn’t even mean anything. Had it meant something good, I would have allowed it. But it’s just a beat, duduke, duduke. That was what I meant. My heart beats like a drum.”
Although she understands that fans mean no harm, she still wants them to respect her daughter’s real name. “Stop calling my child Duduke [laughs]. But you know what? I get it, it’s coming from a good place, so I try not to react.”
Simi’s message is clear: she appreciates the love from fans but wants people to recognize that Duduke is just a song, not her daughter’s name. It’s a small reminder that even celebrities have personal boundaries when it comes to family.
