Early Life
Liz Benson was born in Etinan, Akwa Ibom State, in southern Nigeria. She earned a degree in Dramatic Arts from Sylvania State College in the United States. She began acting at the age of five, showing an early passion for performance that would later define her career.
Career
In 1993, Benson gained national attention when she played Mrs. Agnes Johnson in Fortunes, a popular Nigerian television soap opera. The show aired on the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) for two years. Her role in the 1994 film Glamour Girls a drama centered around the lives of high-society escorts firmly established her as a Nollywood star. After a brief hiatus, Benson returned to the film industry with a renewed purpose. As a born-again Christian, she committed to roles that aligned with her faith. She now chooses projects carefully, prioritizing messages that reflect her values. Alongside acting, she devotes much of her time to Christian ministry and preaching.
Liz Benson faced a personal tragedy in her mid-twenties when she lost her first husband, Samuel Gabriel Etim. She credits his strength of character with giving her the courage to raise their children on her own.
After becoming a born-again Christian, she married Bishop Great Ameye in a quiet court ceremony in Abuja in 2009.
Liz Benson has delivered memorable performances in various productions. She portrayed Titubi in Femi Osofisanโs stage play Morountodun and reprised her television role as Mrs. Agnes Johnson in Fortunes.
