Early Life

Samson Uche Mogekwu, popularly known as Samsong, was born on November 30, 1974, in Delta State, Nigeria. During his high school years, he discovered his musical talent and adopted the stage name Samsong. He pursued higher education at Ambrose Alli University in Ekpoma, Edo State, where he studied Accounting.

Career

Samsong launched his music career as a member of the gospel group Praise Creation. Signed to Ivory Music Label, the group released its debut album Best of Life in 1996. After the group disbanded, Samsong continued as a solo artist.

In 2002, he released Count Your Blessings, which earned him The Psalmist Award. He followed up with Still Counting in 2004, a project that secured him accolades like “Best Male Vocalist of the Year” at both Today’s Music Award and The Amen Awards. In 2005, he won “Best Video of the Year” at the Vigoma Awards.

His 2007 album, The World of My Dreams, featured collaborations with iconic artists such as Onyeka Onwenu on a reimagined version of “One Love” and Styl-Plus on “Live Right.” That same year, he received the Grace Honorary Award for Excellence.

Samsong gained international attention in 2008 when he was nominated for “Best Gospel Artist” at the Nigerian Entertainment Awards in New York. He toured internationally, performing in South Africa, the UK, and Germany, where he also collaborated with German gospel producer Chris Lass. In 2009, he headlined a tour in Seychelles and met Vice President Joseph Belmont.

Samsong’s dedication and vocal strength have kept him at the forefront of gospel music in Nigeria and beyond.
