Nigerian entertainment has lost a creative legend. Kayode Peters, known for his works in theatre and television, has passed away in Toronto. His family shared the sad news on his Instagram page on Saturday, June 28, 2025. They said he died peacefully after a long illness. “KP braved, challenged and conquered a long time illness until his last breath this morning,” the statement read.
Kayode Peters, fondly called KP, was born and raised in Lagos. He studied English at the University of Lagos. After graduating in 2000, he wasted no time before starting his career in entertainment. His first production, The Twilight Zone, marked the beginning of his rise.

He became popular for his work on the comedy series My Flatmates. This Africa Magic show entertained many Nigerian homes and inspired a fresh wave of sitcoms in the country. Peters also contributed to Papa Ajasco & Company, making people laugh with his witty direction and unique style.
In 2015, he produced Doll House, which was well received. Three years later, he went international with Excuse My African in New York City. KP’s talent was not just in TV shows and stage plays. He directed movies too. In 2021, he worked on Crazy Grannies and Dream Job, both of which showed his versatility.
Fans and colleagues are now paying tribute to him online. Many describe him as a man who used his creativity to tell Nigerian stories with humour and truth. Though his life has ended, his works will continue to speak for him. They remain a reminder of his passion for the arts and his love for authentic storytelling.
