Nigerian singer and songwriter Simisola Kosoko, popularly known as Simi, has sparked public discussion after criticizing men who complain about receiving inadequate attention from their wives following childbirth.

In a video statement shared on her social media platforms, the mother of one emphasized that the postpartum period is a critical time for maternal recovery and newborn care. She argued that a husband’s emotional needs should not take priority during this period.

“That’s not your moment,” Simi said while addressing men who feel neglected after a baby arrives.

The singer explained that women experience significant physical and emotional trauma during pregnancy and delivery, including surgery, exhaustion, and permanent body changes. She stressed that attention should remain focused on the mother and baby.

“The right concern should be directed at the mother’s health and the baby’s condition, not whether the father feels neglected,” she stated.

Simi also criticized the social practice of visitors asking a recovering mother about her husband’s well-being instead of her own.

“Why would you ask someone who just went through labor, ‘How is the daddy?’” she questioned.

She added that the sacrifices made by women during the transition to motherhood far outweigh the temporary discomfort men may feel due to changes in family dynamics. She urged men to show greater empathy and recognize the risks, body changes, and possible complications their partners face.

Simi, who is married to fellow singer Adekunle Gold, has consistently used her platform to address parenting, gender roles, and family issues within the Nigerian social context. Her latest remarks reinforce her advocacy for prioritizing maternal health and support in the weeks following childbirth.
