Nollywood actress Angela Okorie will remain in custody at the Suleja Correctional Centre through the weekend, despite being granted ₦5 million bail by a Federal High Court in Abuja.
The actress was unable to regain her freedom on Friday, January 30, 2026, due to administrative delays in processing her release papers before the close of business.
The court, presided over by Justice Emeka Nwite, granted the bail on the condition of two sureties in like sum. One surety must be a civil servant not below Grade Level 14, while the other must be a blood relative. The ruling followed Okorie’s arraignment on a seven-count charge, including cyberstalking, criminal defamation, and threats allegedly directed at colleague Mercy Johnson-Okojie.
Providing an update, movie producer Stanley Ontop (Ajemba Stanley Chibueze) confirmed that the bail requirements had been met but could not be processed in time. He said:
“Angela Okorie’s bail application has been processed but by the time we finished, the processing time had passed. So she will be out of Suleja prison by Monday. We have met her bail conditions and await her release.”
The legal battle stems from a petition alleging that Okorie conspired to defame Johnson-Okojie by labeling her a “blood-sucking demon” in online posts. Following her arrest in Lagos on January 27 and subsequent transfer to Abuja, Ontop made a public plea during court proceedings, stating:
“Please forgive and forget.”
Similarly, actress Doris Ogala, who has been vocal during the detention, expressed surprise at the severity of the situation. She remarked:
“I didn’t know the case would escalate to the extent of Okorie being sent to prison.”
Okorie is expected to be released on Monday, February 2, 2026, once the court confirms the perfection of her bail terms.
