Nigerian Afrobeats star Davido, has spoken out following his loss at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards.
The singer revealed that he initially struggled with the outcome of the Best African Music Performance category. He said his wife, Chioma Adeleke, encouraged him to stay positive.
Davido was nominated for his hit song “With You” featuring Omah Lay. However, the award went to South African singer Tyla for her single “Push 2 Start.” After the announcement at the Crypto.com Arena, Davido admitted he felt deeply disappointed and almost skipped the night’s celebrations.
Sharing the private exchange on Instagram, Davido quoted his first reaction:
“I said baby listen we lost again let’s not go.”
He explained that the loss made him unwilling to attend the traditional Grammy after-parties.
However, he credited his wife for helping him change his mindset.
“Be humble in victory and gracious in defeat. We outside,” Chioma replied.
Moved by her words, Davido posted photos of the couple attending an event later that night. He added the caption:
“My ride or die. She dey my back, active geng.”
Chioma later reaffirmed her support in a separate post, writing:
“You already know that you’re the perfect one.”
This loss marks another year without a Grammy win for the “Timeless” singer. Still, Davido remains one of Africa’s most celebrated artists.
Despite the setback, he revealed he is now focusing on his 2026 world tour and his scheduled performance at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in April.
