Kunle Afolayan, Nollywood filmmaker and businessman, has made a public appeal for financial assistance following a sharp rise in diesel prices that is affecting his business operations.
In a video shared on social media, the founder of KAP Film Village explained that the rising cost of energy has placed significant pressure on the enterprise.
Afolayan disclosed that his business currently spends about N11 million on diesel within a four-to-five-week period, a development he described as unsustainable. The filmmaker noted that the situation worsened after diesel prices increased from around N1,000 to more than N1,500 per litre.
“I have been sad because I can’t cope with the N1,500 per liter of diesel. I can’t even comprehend it because in one of the businesses that we run, Cab Village, we spent about N11 million in 4 to 5 weeks.”
Although the film village already operates with some solar infrastructure, Afolayan revealed that the business still depends heavily on diesel to function effectively.
He explained that the company has now been forced to purchase fuel on credit just to keep its operations running.
“It’s not sustainable because even the diesel we have been buying was on credit and when we make small money we find a way to pay, and sometimes it takes two months to pay and then get another one on credit.”
As a long-term solution, the filmmaker said the business hopes to upgrade its solar power capacity to reduce reliance on diesel.
However, he acknowledged that such a transition would require financial assistance.
“We need a loan to upgrade our solar power. So if you can come to our aid, I will really appreciate it.”
Afolayan also expressed disappointment over the sudden increase in diesel prices and the impact it has had on his operations.
“When this announcement of the new diesel price came, I have been sad. From N995 or N1000 to more than N1,500.”
The filmmaker’s appeal highlights the growing pressure high energy costs continue to place on businesses across Nigeria.
